Elephant toothpaste – Experiment
]\Title – Elephant toothpaste
Purpose: What do you want to learn/find out?
| We wanted to learn if the elephant toothpaste would expand, And we wanted to see if the yeast would react to the hydrogen peroxide. |
Hypothesis: Try to predict the answer to the problem. Another term for hypothesis is ‘educated guess’. This is usually stated like ” If I…(do something) then…(this will occur)
| Our hypothesis was to add more yeast and hydrogen peroxide so the reaction would speed up more.Stay Fefeka The Scientific method |
Materials: List everything you will need to conduct your experiment.
| Hydrogen peroxide, food colouring, warm water, yeast, cup, an empty bottle, spoons and a tote tray. |
Experiment procedure: The fun part! Design a test or procedure to confirm or disprove your hypothesis. Write down each step so that someone else could do the same experiment.
| The First thing we did was put a full bottle of Hydrogen Peroxide in a empty plastic bottle,
The next step was to put dishwashing liquid in the plastic bottle with the Hydrogen peroxide after we put the dish washing liquid in we then put red food colouring in to make it cool we all had to turns to mix the bottle.Then we put two and a half yeast bags in a plastic cup which was 8 grams. Once we put the Yeast in the plastic cup we had to put 3 teaspoons of warm water. After we put the warm water in the cup we then had to stir up the yeast and warm water together until it was hard.Once it was hard we then put more warm water in the cup to make the yeast smooth. once it was smooth we put the bottle mixture into the cup then it did a little explosion |
Analysis/Data: Record what happened during the experiment.
| When we added everything into the cup the reaction was speechless, why because the result was not what we think it was. The bubbles took very long to expand and it made a very big mess, |
Conclusion:Review the data and check to see if your hypothesis was correct.
| Once we finished the experiment we figured out that we couldn’t even do our hypothesis, instead of adding more yeast we added less than the normal amount. |

Mentos and Diet Coke eruption
Today Room 1 and 5 did a science experiment together. We put 4 mentos peices into a bottle of diet coke. As the Mentos candy sinks in the bottle, the candy causes the production of more and more carbon dioxide bubbles, and the rising bubbles react with carbon dioxide. The diet coke erupted like a volcano.
